Studying Mental Health Across the Lifespan

The Developmental Affective Science Lab

What  do we study?

At the DAS Lab we study developmental periods of heightened vulnerability for the onset of depression and anxiety. We focus on adolescence and the perinatal period.

These times of developmental vulnerability present opportunities for prevention and early intervention to improve mental health. Intervening at these times can lead to mental health benefits over a person’s lifespan and even across generations.

To identify novel avenues for intervention, we investigate how symptoms of depression and anxiety are related to various cognitive, emotional and social factors across the lifespan. We then translate our insights from these basic developmental neuroscience studies into novel interventions.
